Hidden Treasures – Sept 20-21

Thursday, September 20th

Hidden Treasures of Wisconsin is what we are out to discover on this fall tour! Our tour departs Central Wisconsin heading for Baraboo where we will stop for an included lunch. Then just a short distance down a country road we will find the International Crane Foundation! The International Crane Foundation is home to many birds of all sizes, with the most important ones being the Whooping Cranes. While being raised here in Baraboo they are taught to follow an Ultralite Plane, so come fall they continue to follow it when they migrate to Florida for the winter. Our visit will include a video, a walk to the various shelters that house the many birds as our guide fills us in on the life of a Whooping Crane while in Baraboo. A stop at their gift shop is also a must!

After learning about the whooping cranes we will head to Bruce Mound for a stop at the Cave of the Mounds. Find your jackets because we will be taking an elevator approximately 70 feet below ground where the temperature is a constant 50°. Our guided tour will take us up and down steps through the various passages as we learn about the beautiful rock formations! With our exercise in for the day we have a short drive to New Glarus, WI.

Tonight’s stay will be at the Chalet Landhaus Inn, if you didn’t know you were in Wisconsin you would think you were in the mountains of Switzerland. The type of rooms we have booked will remain a surprise until we check in!  After getting settled in we will stay right at the Inn to enjoy an included “Swiss Barbecue” on their beautiful Garden Terrace! Following dinner our evening will be free to enjoy their indoor pool area or to check out the village of New Glarus.

Friday, September 21st

View of House on the the Rock Indoor GardensRise and shine to an included hot breakfast! Then pack your suitcase and let’s hit the road for a day at the House on the Rock in Spring Green, WI!  In the past we have only done certain sections of the house and this time we will spend enough time so we will be able to see all three sections of the house – so make sure you have good walking shoes along! Our included lunch will be at the House on the Rock as we get hungry!

Late this afternoon we will make a stop at Peck’s Farm Market for anyone that would like to take some fresh produce home with them – but no animals – they are only there for you to visit with! Our included dinner this evening will be at Culver’s in Mauston before returning back to Central Wisconsin!
