Salsco 6210XT Chipper

Year: 2015

Model: 6210 XT (optional hydraulic feed and speed sensor)

History:
This woodchipper was purchased new by a gentleman from Traverse City, Michigan. He purchased the unit in May of 2015 for the purposes of clearing some land that he purchased. Over the course of the next five years he used the chipper as needed while he completed the project. Whenever the chipper was not in use, it was stored in a garage. After not using it for a couple of years, he advertised the unit, and I purchased it from him in April of 2022. Much like the original owner, my purpose for this machine was to clear some land I had purchased in 2021, located in central Wisconsin where I reside. It was a 40-acre parcel that had been farmed many decades ago. The land was grown over with underbrush and mostly poplar trees. Much of the land could be brush cut with a brush cutter. However, the larger trees had to be cut and thus the need for the woodchipper. I used the chipper during 2022 and 2023. During the summer of 2024, it was only used one time. I no longer need the chipper so I'm selling it. During my time of my ownership, the unit never sat outside and was always stored in a heated building during the winter months.

Maintenance History:
This unit has been extremely well cared for and was never abused. The paint is in excellent condition because it never sat outside. The blades are original and still are in very good condition. There are three sets of blades on the impeller – a total of nine blades in all. We have three replacement blades that come with the machine. The impeller is one-inch-thick steel and is 42 inches in diameter. It weighs 410 pounds by itself!! The entire machine weighs just under 2000 lbs – it is heavy duty and extremely well built. The optional speed sensor was not working when I purchased the machine. We have attempted to repair it but cannot verify that it works. The reason being is because the tractor I used to operate this unit was high enough horsepower (53 hp to the PTO) that we could not draw it down enough to engage the speed sensor. Therefore, I am unsure if it works properly. During my ownership, I replaced one hydraulic hose that developed a leak and the hydraulic motor that developed a small leak. The same motor, after replacement, continues to have a very small leak – a few drops after each use. Everything else remains in proper working order.

Capabilities:
Salsco advertises this machine being capable of chipping trees up to 10” in diameter. You can believe that! This thing is a beast! It requires a minimum of 35 hp at the PTO shaft. I used a Kubota Grand L 6060 tractor that has 53 hp at the PTO shaft. With the Kubota 60 hp tractor powering this machine, it would chew up anything that would fit in the shoot! The hydraulic feeder/conveyor is an option you do NOT want to be without. It makes it so much easier to feed the machine. Occasionally something will get caught and the feeder won’t draw it in. This feeder can be reversed. If something is caught, by reversing the feeder it just pushes the material back out. On a few occasions I had some material get caught in the impeller. There are two ways to access material that is lodged in the impeller. Both are easy to do and take only minutes. The first method is to remove the impeller housing and the second method is the open up the hydraulic feeder which also exposes the impeller. Either method is simple to do and takes only minutes. This is another feature that I really liked; it keeps down time to a minimum!
